The Ice Hawks Strike Back
A long long
time ago, in a rink
not so very very far away,
we lost the war on the ice with
the Red Stars & were filled with shame....
all right, that was my attempt at a clever Stars Wars parody
theme/game summary thing. You know Red STARS, the "Phantom Menace"
video just released, .....forget it....it was a stupid idea, which
is also something in common with the movie, which sucked!!! My
apologies to all the trekkies and sci-fi furrrrrEAKS on the team who
actually liked it, ...I mean it, I am truly sorry you liked it!!
Any whooooo, we beat them 5 -1 this time, avenged that earlier loss
and the Dark Side ultimately lost again.
It was an overall balanced effort on our part. The goaltending was
stellar and the defense played steady and contributed offensively
with 70 Walter
getting off a couple of shots of which one of his blasts
ended up being an assist and 19 DeMarquez
, playing back this
game......sort of.....well, who the hell can tell...slammed in a
goal. The forwards kept the pressure on all night with every line
creating great scoring opportunities. The ARF Line (Arsenault, Ross
& Fair)(Chicks dig cute acronyms) were all over their goalie like a
dog to a bone, so to speak, and contributed 4 goals to the cause
with 4 Stebbins
and 22 Arsenault
each netting 2 goals and 2 assists each. Of course
12 Ross
was actually the one to score on one of Terry's goals, so the refs
arn't always on top of things...
The Red Leafs remain precariously perched in first place, still 2
points ahead of us, we have an "I will believe it when it happens" 2
games in hand to make up. We are in the stretch run and doing
everything we are supposed to to get that #1 seed in the playoffs.
I have to believe that the ICAHL (the Icehawks Can All go to Hell
League) demons will some how conspire to prevent that from
happening. I think we can look forward to 6:00am make-up games and
more alien abductions of all referees scheduled for our games. No
matter, we will prevail, people!!! We will, after 4 long years of
unrelenting effort, of sweat and blood, of overcoming many
formidable obstacles, become the Champions of the shittiest league
in hockey, YEAH!!!! That is, provided we all show up for the
playoffs and play like we can play......so I will make this
perfectly clear to all the multiple teams on the same night players
and all you Sharks season ticket holders (as if they will still be
in it) and everyone who has a curfew.........don't screw this up for
everyone. Be there!!
Notable Notes: Speaking of Phantom Menaces....Did anyone else
besides the very conscientious referee (yes, surprisingly we had 2
of them tonite) see the helacious, bone jarring, rib crackin', organ
displacing hit 14 K. Lachtanski
dished out tonite? Man, giving 14 K. Lachtanski a penalty
for their player losing their balance after a bump like that is kind
of like giving a guy who is thrown out of a moving car a ticket for
littering.
I tried to explain to the ref that 1 Wu
was used to closing
giant 30 foot tall thick oak doors with old rusty iron hinges dating
back to the days when he was an alter boy working in a
cathedral....he didn't buy it......then I told him Mike had
tourettes syndrome......didn't buy that
either....Epilepsy.......nope........stronger than he looks....Nuh
Uh...... then I told him that Mike was an evil maniacal demonic
hockey player with a slight temper problem and he gave him 10 bad
boy minutes......Don't worry Roy, it would take a mid game slaying
of an opposing player to catch up to you in PIM's.
Who slipped 44 Young
a pitching wedge during the game?
Did I look as stupid as I felt going on all fours face first into
the net?...I felt like dolphin in a tuna net....could have been
worse I could have fanned on the shot as well.
What is with the "Come on, Steve" chant during the game? You all
sounded like stupid soccer fans or worse yet, like Expos fans. Kiss
my Savoie, the lot of ya!!!
The drive for "The Drool Cup" continues next week.....
