Puck Junkies Shoot Up Hawks 8-1
Outclassed. Outmatched. Out of their league. Resembling stick people on a foosball table, the Ice Hawks presented little in the way of resistance to a far stronger opponent. Shooting at will, the Punk Junkies peppered goalie 97 Masukawa with 56 (!) shots on their way to an 8-1 thrashing of the Hawks.

Surprisingly, the game was knotted 1-1 up till the middle of the second period. Despite being outshot 12-3 in the first period, the Hawks hung tough and stayed in the game behind the determined efforts of 97 Masukawa. The Junkies opened the scoring early with a short-handed goal, but the Hawks drew even on the power play when 19 DeMarquez converted a nice feed from 44 Young after the burly defenseman ploughed his way through the Junkies' defense.

Unfortunately, that was all the Hawks could muster. The Junkies broke through in the second period for two more goals, and simply blew away the tiring visitors in the third period, scoring 5 goals in the space of 14 minutes. As the game got out of hand it also got ugly. 9 Arakaki laid early claim on "Bad Boy" honors, chalking up over 10 minutes of penalties in the final stanza, including a game misconduct. Responding to a rumor that there was beer in the penalty box, 19 DeMarquez earned an unsportmanlike conduct penalty for directing a volley of obscenities at some of the Junkie players.

Although it's still early in the season, it appears that this current reincarnation of the Ice Hawks has little in the way of offense. The Hawks could only put 8 shots on goal all evening, managing only two in the final period blitkrieg. In the first two league games, opponents have outshot the punchless Hawks by a staggering 4 to1 margin (95 to 24).
